The cultural and linguistic rights of Kurdish children and students must be respected in schools and educational centers
Statement by the Secretariat of the
Kurdistan Human Rights Advocacy Organization
Based on reports published in cyberspace and reflected in news and human rights media, following the performance of a Kurdish anthem by a group of female elementary school students in the city of Javanroud, Kermanshah Province, the school principal, Ms. Zeytun Kohzadi, has been dismissed from her position.
It is reported that after a group of students from Ferdowsi Elementary School in Javanroud performed a Kurdish anthem titled "Rêî Xebat" (The Path of Struggle), intelligence and security agencies summoned Ms. Kohzadi, the principal of the said school, and subsequently ordered her dismissal and expulsion from educational centers.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Advocacy Organization considers the dismissal of Ms. Zeytun Kohzadi to be a violation of her civil, social, and occupational rights, and views the obstruction of Kurdish children and students from performing and singing Kurdish anthems and poems as a violation of their cultural and linguistic rights, contradicting the provisions and emphases of relevant international conventions and universally recognized human rights.
This organization calls for the reinstatement of Ms. Zeytun Kohzadi and the observance of and respect for the cultural and linguistic rights of Kurdish children in schools and educational centers.
