Cultural and linguistic rights of Kurdish children and students must be respected in schools and educational centers

The cultural and linguistic rights of Kurdish children and students must be respected in schools and educational centers

Statement by the Secretariat
Human Rights Organization of Kurdistan

According to reports published in cyberspace and reflected by news and human rights media, Ms. Zaytun Kohzadi, the principal of an elementary school, has been dismissed from her position due to the performance of a Kurdish anthem by a group of female elementary school students in the city of Javanroud.
It is reported that following the performance of a Kurdish anthem titled "Rêy Xebat" (The Path of Struggle) by a group of students from Ferdowsi Elementary School in Javanroud, security and intelligence agencies summoned Ms. Kohzadi, the school principal, and subsequently ordered her dismissal and expulsion from educational centers.
The Human Rights Organization of Kurdistan considers the dismissal of Ms. Zaytun Kohzadi to be a violation of her civil, social, and occupational rights, and views the prevention of Kurdish children and students from performing and singing Kurdish anthems and poems as a violation of their cultural and linguistic rights, which contradicts the provisions and emphases of relevant international conventions and universally recognized human rights.
This organization calls for the reinstatement of Ms. Zaytun Kohzadi and the observance and respect of the cultural and linguistic rights of Kurdish children in schools and educational centers.
