Assassination and killing of journalists is an unjustifiable crime

Statement of the Secretariat
Kurdistan Human Rights Organization

Assassination and killing of journalists is an unjustifiable crime

Yesterday, the Turkish army targeted two cars carrying journalists and media activists with a drone strike on the road from Said Sadiq to Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region. As a result, two Kurdish female journalists and members of the Chatr media, "Gulistan Tara" and "Hero Bahaddin," were killed instantly, and at least 6 other journalists were injured.
Attacking journalists is considered a crime even in war zones, yet these journalists were targeted by a drone strike in a completely non-war zone, which is considered a terrorist, criminal, and condemned act.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Organization condemns the drone strike against civil and media activists and the killing of the two Kurdish female journalists as a terrorist and criminal act, and while considering the silence of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi government regarding the crime of killing and assassinating journalists to be unjustifiable,
It calls upon international and regional human rights organizations, bodies, and forums to condemn this terrorist drone attack by the Turkish government as well as the silence of the Iraqi and regional governments in this regard.
